The most beautiful stand-up paddle spot in Austria

Stand up paddling is actually a lot of fun everywhere, but it is even nicer when you can enjoy a breathtaking view while SUPing. We were travelling in the south of Germany with our Cruise Tandem 15. In the region around Garmisch-Partenkirchen there are loads of wonderful lakes, especially the famous Eibsee at the foot of the Zugspitze. But we only discovered our favourite spot after we crossed the border. Only about 35 kilometres from the Eibsee in Austria, below the Fernpass in Tyrol, there is a particularly beautiful mountain lake and we wanted to tell you about it.

A beautiful lake in front of a mountain backdrop: The Blindsee in Biberwier

About 3 kilometres west of the small town of Bibewier, the Blindsee Lake is located at 1,093 m above sea level in the middle of a forested mountain landscape. The lake with a depth of 25 meters and its turquoise waters is popular with swimmers and sun worshipers. Also thanks to the great water visibility, it is also very popular with divers. The lake is super fun to snorkel and dive. Due to a landslide in February 1984 a lot of trees to fall into the water. Today, the submerged tree trunks make for a particularly exciting underwater world. Hikers will also get their money’s worth here as there is an awesome hour-long walk around the lake.

Of course, the lake is also ideal for SUP fans. But be careful: if you paddle in this breathtaking picture-postcard setting, you are going to find it hard to leave.

Do you need permission?

The lake is freely accessible, however, it is privately owned by the “Mohr Life Resort” hotel in Leermos. If you want to dive, fish or practice stand up paddling, you must get a permit in advance at the hotel. But that was no problem at all! Just drive to the hotel and say that you want to paddle on the lake. You then pay 5 euros per person and easily get an approval slip.
