Whilst Germany isn’t known for its exotic beaches, this doesn’t mean you can’t still SUP to the full. With plenty of gorgeous locations for relaxing and spending quality time paddle boarding, Germany is home to some of the world’s most spectacular lakes.

So, to learn more about Germany’s awesome paddleboard potential, here’s your ultimate guide for where to SUP, Germany edition!

Berlin

Whilst Germany’s capital probably isn’t the first place to spring to mind, there’s a huge range of lakes to be found in Berlin. Around 80 to be precise!

As a result, Berlin offers plenty of great SUP spots ideal if visiting just for the day. From bustling lakes within arm’s reach of vibrant bars and restaurants, to super quiet spots perfect for relaxed paddling, a variety of different SUP experiences can be had here.

One of our personal favourites is the Schlachtensee. Located in south-west Berlin, this lake borders the expansive Grunewald forest. Offering lush green views from virtually all angles, paddling down the Schlachtensee makes for a gorgeous SUP experience all-round. The impressive water quality is great for swimming too!

Lake Walchen

As Germany’s largest alpine lake, it should come as no surprise to find Lake Walchen as one of our top choices. Surrounded by stunning all-natural mountain scenery, plenty of watersports can be enjoyed here due to its vast size.

From windsurfing to sailing, plenty gather to enjoy some fun on the water. But, as SUP is obviously our favourite, we can definitely recommend the Walchen for its super calm waters and gorgeous views.

And if you want to take a break from your board to try something a little different, you can take advantage of the Herzogstand mountain cable car. Allowing you to reach its peak of over 5,500 feet, you can enjoy unbeatable views of the lake from a brand-new perspective.

The Eibsee

Undoubtedly one of Bavaria’s hidden gems, the Eibsee is a truly breath-taking SUP destination guaranteed to feel magical and serene.

Dominated by lush shades of emerald green in spring & summer, this lake is simply gorgeous. Further enhanced by its crystal-clear waters and traditional alpine forest surroundings, the Eibsee also features eight islands to explore.

And during the colder months, the entire lake freezes over and transforms into a true winter wonderland. The perfect opportunity to try out your skills at winter sports! Skiing anyone?

Lake Constance

Also known as the Bodensee, Lake Constance is one of Germany’s brightest SUP spots. Located in the country’s sunniest region, Lake Constance is also Germany’s biggest lake.

Offering plenty of unparalleled SUP and watersport opportunities, this lake also features a truly unique location. Bordering Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the travel experiences Lake Constance can provide are truly second-to-none!

So, whether you want to spend the morning exploring with your SUP and the afternoon enjoying a leisurely river cruise, there’s plenty of fun to be had. No matter the time of year you visit, you’ll find a variety of activities, excursions and new sights to see.

Great for families, this lake is hailed as one of Germany’s most picturesque locations. Surrounded by deep forest and impressive cliffs, gorgeous views are found no matter which direction you’re facing.

And within easy reach of both Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein castles, the Alpsee really is like something out of a fairytale!
